PARTNERSHIPS AT WORK
On the 24th Feb six students that have been on the JobQuest Access Course in Business studies graduated at the Nirimba Business Centre after completing six weeks of intensive training.
To encourage student engagement in the course and involve the wider community in helping these young people achieve success, Heather Smith of JobQuest approached Sandra Ongley,a BREED Community Partnership Broker. The role of the Partnership Broker was to find a local business that would help the students engage with the community in a real work place training partnership.
A Partnership was formed with Vivek Gupta from Smart Tech Solutions in Blacktown. Vivek and JobQuest consultants met with the McGraths Hill Children's Centre to evaluate their needs and desired web page set up. He then set tasks for the ACCESS students each week to achieve this aim and this has resulted in the students producing a free of charge web site for McGraths Hill Children's Centre. Vivek offered to host the site for 12 months and I.T. support. Vivek also offered work experience to the students but as all six students found employment or further training this was not required.
Vivek from Smart Tech Solutions can be contacted on 0401 318 439 to discuss your web site and I.T. needs or have a look at his website Smart Tech Solutios.
If you would like to get involved with a community Partnership and support learning opportunities that contribute to the skills and knowledge of the future work force and improve your bottom line Please contact Sandra Ongley at BREED Community Partnership on 9853 3281.
Academy of Sport - Charity Sports Dinner
The BREED Community Partnership was proud to sponsor a table at the recent Western Sydney Academy of Sport "A Night with the Stars" Celebrity Sports Dinner. The dinner was to raise funds for our next generation of sports stars and did so in fine fashion with $32,800 being presented to the Academy. The event was certainly star studded with special guests, Darryl Brohman from 2GB and Channel 9, Ian Robilliard from Sydney Kings, Nathan Hindmarch from Parramatta Eels and Julie Fitzgerald from the Sydney Swifts participating in the 'Bar Stool Banter'. Justice Crew, Joey Fimmano and Mark Vincent entertained the guests. The evening was a great success and will give the youth of Western Sydney the opportunity to improve the sporting skills.
